AUXNAV files There are many useful documents on several National Auxiliary sites. There are links our "National Links" page if you want to look for yourself. Your webmaster has collected some of the more useful links or files and added some he created. Notice that some files can be downloaded in more than one way; you may want to choose depending on your download speed (Cable Modem, DSL or dial-up). (1) SUBJECT MATTER: Our course uses the Advanced Coastal Navigation (ACN) manual. Chapters 1-6 are refered to as "Basic Coastal Navigation (BCN)". ACN uses all Chapters 1-12. Auxiliary PowerPoint presentations are available for all chapters. Please read the suggestions here before going to the Auxiliary sites.

| Public Education (updated 16DEC04). The link below lists Basic and Advanced Coastal Navigation on the same page. Scroll down to Advanced Coastal Navigation. If you have a fast connection, you can download ONE file with all presentations. It is titled 'ACN Index, Chapters 1-12' and is 12.8 MB. If you successfully download this file, you DO NOT NEED THE OTHERS. If you have a dial-up connection, you may want to only download a few chapters. These are listed by title and typically are 1 to 2 MB each. The link is: ACN-PE. |
| Member Training Department Department (update unknown). The link below takes you to a search engine. The two choices for us are 'AUXACN' and 'ACN' however 'ACN' is probably NOT worth downloading. You will get a list of individual files which you have to download individually. Some of these files give you the answers to the Questions and Answers in the Study Guide. The link is: ACN-MT. |
|
(2) STUDY GUIDE: Intially, your webmaster could not find answers to the Study Guide Questions and Problems so he made his own. The link above, "ACN-MT", offers these answers (e.g. 'Homework.ppt'). You may prefer the Auxiliary's files to the ones in this section. However, remember your webmaster suggests that the "old" Study Questions in Section 3 are more useful than any of these PPT presentations in reviewing for the NAV A exam. |

(3) STUDY QUESTIONS: For many reasons your webmaster thinks that the Questions from the "old" AUXNAV manual are more useful for exam review than those in the ACN Study Guide. First, the format is similar to the exam. Second, these were recommended for the exam NAV A until about 2002. When the switch was made to ACN, it is unlikely that the exam was changed. These are available in MS Word format from this site. Only those questions the webmaster felt were appropriate for the exam are here. |
